[edit] Initial setup

Set up the portal but could do with input from more people please- PocklingtonDan 10:50, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Lovely work on all levels PocklingtonDan, hope to join you in some production work in the commign weeks (should fate be kind enough to let me time).--Dryzen 18:43, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks very much, its the first portal I've made or had any real input on - since I have volunteered to maintain it, how often do the contents of the various sections need refreshing? I know a portal such as the main page would obviously be updated with new featured articles daily, but what is normally reasonable for a portal such as this? Cheers - PocklingtonDan 22:09, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

You should probably update the page about once a week if not more frequent, otherwise the portal's main page will get boring, and it is starting to get boring lately. Please change it.--Yelir55 21:29, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I am updating the articles on the front page because they should change more often. I didn't know if you were ever going to update them dan. Yelir55 21:49, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] End of Empire

Of course, while the Western Roman Empire ended as described in the first paragraph, the Eastern Empire, which was originally the same Empire under the same rule, endured until its overthrow by Turkish forces led by Mehmet the Conqueror in 1453.--Anthony.bradbury 11:34, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

This is referred to on wikipedia as the Byzantine Empire, and is covered in a different series of articles - PocklingtonDan 18:27, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
I knew that this was the Byzantine empire, obviously. But it was not called that until, I believe, the eighth century AD. I was suggesting that a distinction might be made in the preamble to the article. I have made and will make no change - it was just a thought.--Anthony.bradbury 18:56, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
There is a note in te intro to Military of ancient Rome stating what era is covered and to see Byzantine Empire for later stuff, feel free to add something similar to the portal. Cheers - PocklingtonDan 09:08, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
