[edit] Early life
Millvina was born in Hampshire, England, the second child and only daughter of Bertram Frank Dean and Georgette Eva Light. She had one older brother, Bertram Vere "Bert" Dean, born 21 May 1910.
[edit] RMS Titanic
Millvina and her family boarded Titanic as third-class passengers at Southampton with the intention of emigrating to Wichita, Kansas. Her father planned to open a tobacconist shop there.
Millvina, her mother and older brother Bertram escaped the ship on lifeboat 10; her father died in the sinking. Instead of continuing on to Wichita, Georgette took her children back to England, aboard the SS Adriatic.
[edit] Later years
Millvina attended Greggs School in Southampton. Growing up, she had no idea that she was on board the Titanic, only learning when she was eight and her mother was planning to remarry.
Millvina herself never married. She worked for the government during World War II, and later worked in the purchasing department of an engineering firm. She is still active in Titanic-related events.[1] She currently lives in Southampton, England, and is 95.
Note: According to interviews with Millvina Dean, she contends that she was rescued in lifeboat number 13 as opposed to number 10 as previously noted.
