Milliard

Milliard is a French-derived word meaning the number 1,000,000,000 (109; one thousand million or a megamillion). It is unused in American English and is rare in other forms of English. During the 20th century, the short scale "billion" has become the normal term in the most of the English-speaking world.

"Milliard" is a common word to many other languages other than English, for example "miljardi" in Finnish, "miljard" in Dutch, Afrikaans and Swedish, "milliard" in Norwegian and Danish, "miliard" in Polish, "miliarda" in Czech, "Milliarde" in German, "milliárd" in Hungarian, "miljarður" in Icelandic, "miliardo" in Italian and Esperanto, "Milijarda" in Slovenian and Croatian, "Миллиард" (Romanization: Milliard) in Russian, "Milijarda/Милијарда" in Serbian, "millardo" in Spanish, "Miliyard" in Persian, "Milyar" in Turkish and מיליארד (IPA: [miliɑʁd]) in Modern Hebrew and similarly.
