[edit] History

The school has a history which pre-dates the coming of the New town, in the form of the Crawley and Ifield County Junior Mixed and Infants school.

As the new town developed, in 1956 new schools opened on a site in Rusper Road operating as Ifield County Infant School and Ifield County Junior School. However, in 1985, when re-organisation of education provision in the west of the town took place, the school's junior department was relocated to the current Ifield Drive site, where it became a Middle school for pupils aged 8 to 12. The site had formerly been the home of part of the Ifield Comprehensive School. The infant school became a first school on the Rusper Road site.

In 2001, the falling rolls at the middle school, and the dilapidated state of the first school buildings led to both schools being accommodated on the Ifield Drive site, under separate leadership. However, within 3 years, a further change to the structures of education in the town led to the schools being closed, and re-opening as the new Mill Primary School.

[edit] Organisation

The school is unusual as a primary school in a large 3-storey building. The school has been extensively redeveloped since 1985 both during its change to a middle school, and later changes to co-located and then combined schools. Pupils are taught in class bases, whilst enjoying a wide range of facilities including a large gymnasium.
