Milind Date [Born 28 February] is one of the most versatile musicians from India. He has carved a niche for his exceptional abilities in Bansuri – Bamboo Flute playing and as a talented composer. Milind is a senior performing disciple of the renowned Bansuri virtuoso - Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Milind is known for his exquisite blowing technique, melodious and expressive playing displaying mastery over different music styles.
Surprisingly, Milind started his musical journey late in life. At the age of 21, he started learning flute from a well-known master Pandit Ajit Soman in Pune - his hometown. Within a year, he was fortunate to come under the guidance of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. By the time he was 25, he had already performed with great Indian masters such as Pandit Hridaynaath Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale, Usha Mangeshkar, Yashwant Deo, Suresh Wadkar, etc. In 1998 he started his now famous Fusion - World Music band – "Fusion Ensemble". Since then, his career as a solo artiste has blossomed and has led to him performing over 2000 Indian Classical and Fusion - World Music concerts for wide and varied audiences.
Beginning 2002, Milind has performed extensively in South Korea and gained recognition for his collaborations with musicians like Beik in Young, Lim won Sik, Park je Chun, Mi Yeon, Lim dong Chan, Lee Ki Hwa, Park Chi Um and more. Milind is also a part of Orientillica - the World Music Ensemble. He has also recorded for and featured in several albums released in Korea.
A keen student of music, Milind has explored different styles of music such as Indian Classical Music, Indian Folk Music, Devotional Music, Jazz, Arabic, Blues, Rock, Fusion - World Music, and Free Music. This interest and ability has helped him in his performances and collaboration with musicians from across the world.
An accomplished, versatile composer and arranger, Milind has experimented with several music and dance forms through his performances and recordings.
Milind has worked with some of the great musicians such as Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Asha Bhosale, Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Hridaynaath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, Ram Kadam, Bhaskar Chandawarkar, Taufiq Qureshi, Anandan Sivamani, Zhubin Kalhor, Mohmed Alnuma, Chinmaya Dunster, Angeli, Ageha, Bhakta, Nawang Khechog, Chuki Tethong, Dechen Shak-Dagsay, Zhenfang Zhang, Xu Fengxia, Tu Shang Xian, Sato Yuki, Satygyan, Mitsutaka Ishii, Madhura Jin Bora, Alviro Alavares, Jurgen Ohnemus, Buddhen Gobbles and painters like M. F. Husain, Udayraaj Gadnis, Achut Palav, Milind Mulick and many more.
Milind has several award winning albums to his credit too. He has produced and composed albums like the Earth Concerto, where musicians from, Iran, Iraq, Korea, Israel-Morocco and India have come together to create a unique style. Milind has also produced Fantasy - an album of Angeli, a singer from New York. This is a mainstream American pop music album.
Milind's varied interests include sound recording, composing and arranging, photography and writing. He is based in Pune, near India's financial capital-Mumbai. Besides performing Milind is busy composing for films, albums and other musical projects.
