Milford Writer's Workshop
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Milford Writer's Workshop is an influential East Coast science fiction writer's workshop founded by Damon Knight. Past Milford participants include Gardner Dozois, George Alec Effinger, and Jack Dann, among others. Milford was the model for other peer-to-peer SF writer workshops, including the Turkey City Writer's Workshop. It was so named because it was based in Knight's home of Milford, Pennsylvania.
In 1972 James Blish set up the United Kingdom Milford Workshop, initially meeting in Milford on Sea, Hampshire. Participants have included Bruce Sterling, Neil Gaiman, Diana Wynne Jones, David Langford and Gwyneth Jones, amongst others. The Milford UK workshop continues annually, and as of 2006 has been held in North Wales for several years, usually in September; details here (external link).
