Milburn is a small settlement about three kilometres north of Milton, New Zealand.

Milburn has recently been in the media in New Zealand due to the controversy of a planned prison in the area. The Milburn site has been chosen as the preferable site for the new Otago prison. The rural residents of the area have been divided by the issue.

[edit] History

Milburn is also locally famous for its limeworks. Many thousands of tonnes of crushed limestone are trucked out of the hills separating the Tokomairiro Plain and Lake Waihola annually to be used in fertilizers.

A large whale fossil can be found in a display at a lookout over the limeworks, Tokomairiro Plains and Lake Waihola.
