Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello Mikecraig/Archive 1, welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

You might like some of these links and tips:

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alf melmac 09:32, 18 October 2005 (UTC).

Vandalism

Please refrain from adding nonsense, such as edits you made to Nicole Kidman, to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. --Yamla 03:35, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Fast_Fried_Rice_Bowl.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fast_Fried_Rice_Bowl.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. Image Tagging for Image:CFAemblem.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:CFAemblem.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. Gretel Killeen and your editing patterns

Hello. I just removed a paragraph from the Gretel Killeen article containing some unsupported and vague assertions about her sexuality. I pasted it onto the talk page for discussion, and found two other people had already pasted it there before me, after removing it themselves. Please justify why you feel this text should be included (with relevant references) there on the talk page. You should be aware that simply reverting repeatedly in the manner you have done is considered by many to be disruptive.

I also noticed two extremely dodgy edits by you: one to Nicole Kidman, and the other to Gretel Killeen. These cases are construed to be vandalism, and if you make edits like this to articles again you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia entirely. - Mark 12:28, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Heinz.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Heinz.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Your edits to John Howard

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Remember to mark your edits as minor only when they genuinely are (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). "The rule of thumb is that an edit of a page that is spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'."

Welcome to Wikipedia! We could really use your help to create new content, but your recent additions do not assert the notability of their subjects and have been reverted or removed. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

Thanks, Andjam 03:54, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Copyright problems with Image:Antoniooporto.jpg

An image that you uploaded, Image:Antoniooporto.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

You've specified the pd-self license tag, but you are clearly not the creator and have no right to release it to public domain. The oporto website has a "Media Room" section, from which you may be able to use images under the tag of promo (see: Wikipedia:Publicity_photos), but the rest is not fair game. See also:

WWE No Mercy

It is already mentioned that Cena will go to SmackDown if he loses, I don't think it being a 3 year deal is really needed since it's just a storyline and not a real 3 year contract. TJ Spyke 04:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Nicole Kidman

    • THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED AS HARASSMENT - MEDIATION AND ARBITRATION TO COME - BE WARNED **

-

You're saying you can't see what's wrong with adding an unsourced POV comment from some minor celebrity, which is obviously negated by the numerous awards Kidman has achieved? That this supposed trivia is similar to vandalism you have previously made to the article [1], and that you supposedly dated the announcement at 13th September, despite it having been added (and removed) previously, only add weight to it being nonsense. --Steve 02:21, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

  • You state above that you will be reporting this as harassment. I note that you have made no such reports as of today --Steve 03:12, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

The image is NOT a logo. Stop using the LOGO license tag on your images. It's the reason why it ended up being deleted last time. I've removed the LOGO tag, and as a result the image now has no license information. -- Blu3d 05:47, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

D-Generation X

The reference for the very uncalled for or immature was from Vince McMahon, when they first started doing it and, in an interview on WWE.com in July, there was a section on all the changes that DX had to make, including the crotch chop. I dont have the exact link but, I know it was there, because I read the article. I will find the link eventually but it isn't that urgent. I think you need to cool it and give people a chance to explain. --Mikedk9109 22:56, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

It's been there for at least a week, normally editors way more experienced than I would be making more of an issue than I would..I have learnt this from these editors and trying to do the right thing...at the end of the day I think it is a minor thing relating to DX --Mikecraig 22:59, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Protecting Ed Kavalee

Just to let you know, adding {{sprotected}} or {{protected}} to a page is only a means for an admin to notify users that a page is protected. This does not actually confer protection to the article such as the notice you placed on Ed Kavalee. If you need help protecting a page, please contact an admin or request it. Thanks! --Casper2k3 23:45, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the advise! If you see the history on Ed Kavalee and Tony Martin wiki's there is alot of vandalism. I will request protection properly in the future. --Mikecraig 23:53, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Richard Marsland Nicknames

Hey mate, what's your view on the constant removal and re-adding of the lengthy list of nicknames on the Richard Marsland article? Should it be in there or not? --Ninevah 02:19, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Hmm..good question - I guess it's amusing (esp if you listen to the program like I do) but I think it gets a bit crazy with all the names (esp with vandalism that follows also) and does not help that the show makes light of this and basically "encourages vandalism..etc" to this and related wiki's. The nickname "Armitage Shanks" is the main nickname that is referenced on the show and across other programs he had been involved in, so I guess that rates a mention. But all the others seem a bit excessive - not sure of the WP policy regarding this? --Mikecraig 02:24, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
What irritates me is that people always re-add all the nicknames, with "Marsland said to put it back in!" in the edit summary... Grrr! Personally, think they should be left out. --Ninevah 22:27, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Listing pages for Semi-Protection

In case you didn't know this, you can list a page as a candidate for semi-protection here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection. I just listed Fifi Box and Ed Kavalee. Once the page is semi-protected, anonymous users and newbies (accounts less than 4 days old) are no longer able to edit the page. This can save a major amount of vandal patrolling hassle. - Richfife 00:59, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Vandal tags

Thank you for reverting vandalism on Wikipedia!

Be sure to put warning tags on the vandal's user talk page (such as {{subst:test}}, {{subst:test2}}, {{subst:test3}}, {{subst:test4}}). Add each of these tags on the vandal's talk page, in sequential order, after each instance of vandalism. Adding warnings to the talk page assists administrators in determining whether or not the user should be blocked. If the user continues to vandalize pages after you add the {{subst:test4}} tag, request administrator assistance at Request for Intervention. Again, thank you for helping to make Wikipedia better.

I fully appreciate what a chore it is, but warning helps to deal with repeat vandals more effectively. Thanks--Golden Wattle talk 10:13, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem, thanks for letting me know! --Mikecraig 10:40, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Although the above talks about escalating warnings, I frequently use {{subst:Blatantvandal}} which is effectively, vandalise once more and you will be blocked. It speeds things up and these sort of edits are so boring. A large but not exhaustive list can be found at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. Regards Golden Wattle talk 21:41, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Cool thanks for your help....still learning about some of the different tags! --Mikecraig 21:56, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

re: Category:Date of birth missing

Good afternoon. Per the discussion about privacy concerns expressed at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of birthdays, date of birth should generally not be added to the biographies of living non-public or semi-public figures. So far, that policy has been interpreted fairly strictly with a pretty high bar being set for the definition of "public figures" who are assumed to have given up their rights to privacy.

By the same token, we should not be adding Category:Date of birth missing to articles unless we have made the case that the person meets the "public figures" threshold. Otherwise, we're just baiting new users into adding content even though the community has already said that we shouldn't include that particular data point. Category:Year of birth missing is okay but the exact date is often not. Thanks for your help. Rossami (talk) 21:31, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem - thanks for the feedback and assistance --Mikecraig 06:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Wedgetitle.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Wedgetitle.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. JDtalk 01:59, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Wedgetitle.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Wedgetitle.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. JDtalk 11:53, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Whoops sorry about that....orginally I was going add some stuff...but found that the item there was not very trivial - you can revert if you want but I think it should be put into the article somewhere else and is not very trivia related. --Mikecraig 22:15, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Have re-added it, but moved the section towards the bottom of the article. I think it's still relevant, just not where it was originally featured. --Ninevah 22:22, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

John Cena (Subway) image

The image, which is tiny, adds nothing to the article. WP:PW has been actively trying to remove fair use images from wrestling articles as much as possible in place of free use images. John Cena already has three Fair Use images on it, this one only shows an image of Cena standing near Jared Fogle. Why is that important to the article? It was badly placed on top of that.«»bd(talk stalk) 04:09, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
