[edit] Transfer of adminship
Dear Michael, you are talking about the lack of reputation. I think you are talking about the few adminship actions I have enacted. I hope that the explanation on the talk page is clear enough. If you mean something else, please let me know. I am allways ready to learn. Electionworld = Wilfried (talk 08:54, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia - Jack Kerouac entry
Mike, I was checking this entry, as Kerouac is one of my favorite authors, and the web link to www.jackkerouac.com is no longer valid. Rather than just edit it, I then did research for the last two hours to see if there was a better site that could be substituted. While there are many sites out there, nothing definitive. I checked the domain and both .org and .com are registered to the Estate Of Jack Kerouac, which figures, and the .net is to a private individual. At present therefore it looks like the wikipedia entry is the most "official" given that wikipedia entries by default have to be closely edited and verified. What is the rule on amending web site links? Should they point to one considered most useful in the view of the editor (i.e. me) or should they point to an "official" site (i.e. one that is authorized by the Estate Of Jack Kerouac). Apologies for long post to your talk page. Hope this is ok.--Kerojack, Argenta 03:47, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jack Kerouac - Websites
Thanks for updating the entry. I agree there are many J.K. sites out on the world-wide web, and a google showed that some even purport to be official websites, but so far the ones I looked at seem to be publishing a mix of items repeated from elsewhere or contain editorial, which in itself is perfectly acceptable within the confines of the website, but not within the confines of Wikipedia. There are very few authorities that I would accept, one being Ann Charteris. --Kerojack, Argenta 04:40, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Vandalism"
Could you please not mark good faith edits as vandalism, like this: [1], and rather explain in the summary that it should be on the talk page? CP/M comm |Wikipedia Neutrality Project| 23:00, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, don't mind then. I'm just somewhat concerned with many people lately using reversion and calling edits vandalism wherever they don't like something, and this edit followed pattern of a newbie, not a vandal. Thanks for explanation about this user. CP/M comm |Wikipedia Neutrality Project| 08:24, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hmmm
Speaking of Polish-Americans (Zuniga talk), this one is my favorite. I'd heard the term before, but I'd only stumbled on to this recently and it is so fascinating. Out of all the American criminals, this guy is the closest - by a wide margin - to a real-life comic book mad genius. He looks like such a distinguished professor in that picture, too (though it seems he usually looked more nutso in the other pics of him). Apparently he shares/shared the same cell block with a couple of Muslim/Arab terrorists and a few of the neo-Nazi/Oklahoma city idiot rednecks. In comparison, he doesn't seem so bad. [edit] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orpheus_Emerged
Mike -- This is my first article. I hope that it makes sense, it does draw heavily on the Library Journal review as I have not yet read the book. I was reading through the On The Road section and noticed that no page existed for Orpheus Emerged. Problems: I haven't gone through the text and linked everything using the brackets. I was hoping I could do this when the article had been approved, or at least approved as a stub entry, so that othere more capabale than I could review it and add whetver they wanted. Kerojack, Argenta 05:08, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Lists vs. Categories
Ah, the old List vs. Category debate. I have no idea why we have both. Lists on Wikipedia are essentially useless. Are you suggesting that those people should not be categorized as X-Americans at all because we have a list of them? There is actually a deletion vote on some of the lists going on at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Bengali actresses. Personally, I would prefer categories to lists. Mad Jack 06:19, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- I know, but the sources could just as easily be in the article(s) if we had none of the lists. Mad Jack 06:27, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orpheus Emerged - Edits
Thanks for updating the entry in terms of style. I still have it flagged that it reads like a review. I was hoping that my edits would have turned it into a neutral factual comment as to what the book is, when it was written and when it was published. I have a copy of the first edition so that would confirm the year of publication, the date of the paperback was sourced on Amazon, and the factual comment about what the book was about was sourced from various sites, including the publisher's site and some reviews on Aamzon that corroborated the comment. [edit] Kellie Pickler page
Just a quick note, you've made several edit summaries in which you say that fansites are not allowed, or not to be included. Please review WP:EL in which it clearly states that On articles about topics with many fansites, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate, marking the link as such. Fansites are ok, provided that only one major one is included. Just an FYI. Batman2005 18:37, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

- Oh I absolutely agree! I've actually deleted fansites from that very same page quite a bit...though that was back during the actual competition. I just wanted to make sure that you weren't going to delete ALL the fansites, just the fansite spam that seems to occur on there quite frequently. Batman2005 22:35, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Plot Summary -- Orpheus Emerged
A couple of things, first I am going to work on a plot summary, second Amazon.com have started their own product wikis for their popular books, and I wonder if this info might be passed on as I am sure that wiki authors preparing and/or maintaining wiki entries on their favorite books would like to ensure that Amazon.com's product wiki isn't too far off base. Of course they don't need to but I gather some have an almost evangelical (if that's the right word) zeal in getting the story right. Kerojack, Argenta 01:09, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Polish-Americans
BTW, I think this weekend is some kind of historic moment for Polish-Americans (well, I am exaggerating, but you get the point) - possibly or probably the first time that two movies that star Polish-American actresses are given a wide release on the same weekend. There's Maria Bello - who is half - in World Trade Center, and Kristen Bell in Pulse. They both have the same last name, even, sort of! I'm not sure if Bell is all Polish or not, though an Ellen DeGeneres interview seemed to indicate that (also in World Trade Center - Stephen Dorff and Maggie Gyllenhaal - whose Jewish ancestors may well have been from Poland - but that doesn't really count). Anyway, enjoy the moment, I guess, lol. Mad Jack 05:05, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well I notice stuff like that (i.e. two Pol-American actresses in one week - probably the first time) and I realized that it must be some kind of a rarity with leading actresses (well, Bell is kind of supporting) so I noticed it and didn't have anyone else to tell it to. Mad Jack 05:09, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- You oughta get rid of the "Brett Asa Young Ace Young / Brett Young" name thing. The lettering is so large and so annoying. It should just be "Ace Young" in that infoboc. Career seems fine to me, i.e. the three-section division seems to get it right. Did you include critical reviews of Young's performances (i.e. by non-American Idol judges)? Those could help (i.e. see Mandy Moore - the music section - for what I mean) Mad Jack 05:24, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Where should they be placed? Probably according to when the reviewer wrote about Young, i.e. were they reviewing his American Idol performances? Then in that section. Also I would get rid of "He appeared at the DVD premiere of High School Musical and the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest." I bet hundreds of people appeared at those premiers. It sounds "NON-N"! Mad Jack 05:28, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Oh well, fair enough, you may be able to squeak it by regardless Mad Jack 05:42, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have copy-edited the article and fit it into the standard Early/Career/Personal life format. Some of the stuff needs citation, and, no indication is given that Young is a Mormon, only his mother (Mormonism doesn't pass through the maternal line:) ) that needs a source. I "FACT"ed the other stuff. I hope you like it - the article has been "MAD JACK"ed. Mad Jack 06:10, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh Mike I was just removing the Mormon cat and put in "Sorry Joseph Smith" to the edit summary, but you ruined my joke. Anyway, thanks for looking that up, it just goes to show you that when people assume.... - An eclair and medium-sized iced cappuccino, please. To go. Mad Jack 06:26, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, you're talking about that again. OK, well, it's not bad, the writing is fine, you do need to cite those two lines I stuck with the "FACT" tag. Seems to address User:Lincher's concerns (i.e. the old GA). Why are you interested in this guy, anyway? Katharine McPhee is much hotter. I still would like to find out her background - Irish and Jewish or not? If I had to bet money I would say yes, but I need that source... Mad Jack 06:34, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I nominate you to write to McPhee's mother, and then I second, third, and fourth the vote that you write to her. So... I guess it's up to you. Mad Jack 06:39, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- No I haven't written to anyone, I don't write to people about their background. :) I had a chance to ask Lindsay Lohan how Italian she was exactly, but I didn't. Oh well. Mad Jack 06:41, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- No I seriously doubt she is 50%. Both her parents have Irish names. She mentioned an "Italian grandmother" once. Both her parents look half-something. My suspicion is either one of her parents is half or both of her parents are half and half - not completely unusual - though I can't actually thing of anyone who has two "half-Italian" or "half Jewish" or anything similar parents (well, Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker's kids will be, and so will quite a few other celeb kids, but I mean actual famous people and not just celebrity kids). In person. She was filming Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen in June of 2003 (before anyone knew who she was except me) here where I live, but I did not really talk to her, just watched some of the filming (I got the director's autograph, though). Her article says her father was Jewish and her mother "may have Jewish ancestry", straight from the source cited (check the source). Obviously her mother was not Jewish in any sense except possibly having some Jewish ancestry. But I love how roughly up to December 2005, every single site on the net said Parker's mother was Jewish and father was not. I bet she said she was "half Jewish" somewhere and someone assumed because her last name is WASPy. But in a book interview Parker noted her background - i.e. see the source cited. Mad Jack 06:49, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Clearly, but this is why Jewish as an ethnicity is so hard to track. So many people changed their names, moreso than, say, Italian. If someone's last name is Black they are almost assuredly not Italian, Finnish, or Dutch on that side, but don't be surprised if they are Jewish. Same for any other generally Anglo last name. Mad Jack 06:54, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Versus
Hi. I saw your edit and self-revert in the "Lawrenceville, Georgia" article. I'm not very old, and only in my lifetime has the commoner abbreviation of versus switched from vs. to v. It seems to have happened sometime in the 1990s. Plenty of persons and other sources still use vs.—which, of course, will also be the commoner thing to find in material printed before the shift. Also, if the two parties in a court case have the surnames Thomas and Trapp, and the case is Thomas v. Trapp, the v. could be misread as standing for the German surname prefix von: Thomas von Trapp instead of Thomas versus Trapp. Anyway, just offerring a bit of information. — President Lethe 15:55, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] McPhee
Now that Mandy Moore is an FA and Ace Young is a GA, it seems time for McPhee to be a GA too, with the biggest requirement being finding a reliable source for her ethnic background, of course. :) Mad Jack 03:14, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- I know, it's annoying. She went to the same school as Rachel Bilson and they kind of look alike. We should ask Rachel Bilson. BTW, I'm finally going to town on the Jewish actors list (i.e. much is still unsourced). This should provide me with good entertainment for a few hours. Mad Jack 03:17, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Actually that source explicitly states, twice, that Eigenberg's father is Jewish. Nothing is said on Eigenberg... (the quote is his father's) Mad Jack 05:01, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
