Mikey Robins

Mikey Robins (born December 8 1961) is an Australian media personality. He is most well known for being one of the team captains in the satirical game show Good News Week, which ran on the ABC and Network Ten between 1996 and 2000. He was born and raised in Newcastle, New South Wales, before moving to the United Kingdom for period of time in his younger years. He returned to Australia to complete his schooling and obtain an Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Newcastle.

He was a Triple J presenter for seven years, ending in 1998. His co-presenters included Helen Razer (1996), Paul McDermott (1997), Jen Oldershaw and The Sandman (Steve Abbott) (1998). He is also a published author, co-authoring two books:

  • Three Beers and a Chinese Meal - with Helen Razer
  • Big Man's World - with Tony Squires and Steve Abbott

He also had an alter-ego, Keith The Moravian Swearing Bear, who appeared in the 1998 series Good News Weekend, and the 1999 series GNW Night Lite.

Since the cancellation of GNW, he has hosted several documentaries on pubs around the world "Mikey's Pubs and Beernuts". He has also hosted shows on Triple M, and appeared on the ABC series The Fat, and the Seven Network's breakfast program, Sunrise. He is also a fan of the South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team.

Robins was a contestant in the TV show Australian’s Brainiest Comedian. In the final round, he beat Bob Downe, winning the game by one point. He was presented with a trophy and won AUD$20,000, donated to the NSW Autism Association.

He has recently undergone lapband gastric surgery in an attempt to lose weight, and according to Sydney newspaper The Daily Telegraph, has lost around 50kg, and according to his doctors, will continue to lose weight until some time in the next year.

Robins is co-hosting the breakfast program on Sydney radio station Vega 95.3 during the 2006-7 holiday season.
