Mike Wadsworth

Mike Wadsworth, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, who died April 28, 2004 at the age of 60, was an all star Canadian Football League defensive lineman.

Wadsworth, who played his high school football at De La Salle High School in Toronto, attended the prestigious football powerhouse, University of Notre Dame. Upon graduation he joined the Toronto Argonauts for a 5 year career, winning the Gruen Trophy as the best rookie in the East in 1966 and being named an all star in 1968.

After his football days, Wadsworth would become a lawyer, be a football analyst on CTV television CFL broadcasts, was named the Canadian Ambassador to Ireland in 1989, and was named athletic director at his alma mater, University of Notre Dame in 1995.

His father, Bunny Wadsworth, starred for the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1940.

He died of brain cancer, and is survived by his wife Bernadette and three daughters.
