Mike Michalkow

Mike Michalkow is a drummer who has been performing and teaching for over 18 years. Mike was born in Winnipeg Manitoba and has been playing the drums since he was 17 years old.

Mike is currently endorsed by Yamaha Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Hansen Futz Practice Pedals, and Vic Firth Sticks.

When Mike first started learning the drums he studied hard rock, punk, blues, and pop music. Later in his career he began to study more progressive and technical drummers.

Mike has trained under Mitch Dorge, John Fisher, Chuck Silverman, Jim Chapin, Peter Magadini, Virgil Donati, and Dom Famularo.

Mike has been in charge of the drum department for the "National Guitar Workshop", and when he is at home he performs with The Sabir Sisters, The Town Pants, Tamburarasa, and Symphony In Demeanor. Symphony In Demeanor won the "Best Album Award" from the IOMA music awards. Mike has also performed at the Vancouver International Drum Festival every year since 2001.

Mike has released a solo album called "To The Extreme", a book entitled "Building A Foundation For The Modern Drummer" and a DVD entitled "Moeller Method Secrets". The Moeller Method Secrets DVD goes into detail about the Moeller method that Sanford A. Moeller observed from civil war drummers in the 1800s.

In 2007 Mike is expected to release "The Jazz Drumming System" and "The Latin Drumming System" with the help of Jared Falk.
