Mike Holtz

Michael James (Mike) Holtz (born October 10, 1972 in Arlington, Virginia is a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Boston Red Sox. Previously, Holtz has played with the California Angels (1996), Anaheim Angels (1997-2001), Oakland Athletics (2002[start]) and San Diego Padres (2002[end]). He bats and throws left handed.
In a seven-season major career, Holtz has posted a 16-19 record with a 4.68 ERA and three saves in 350 games pitched with the Angels, Athletics and Padres.
Holtz also played for the Yokohama BayStars of the Japanese Central League in 2005 and had a 0–1 mark with 4.38 ERA and 22 SO in 24-2/3 innings pitched.
In 2006 Holtz has pitched effectively for Triple-A Pawtucket. Opponents are batting just .143 off him, holding left-handed hitters to an .091 average (1-for-11). Holtz had thrown 10 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings before allowing a run April 28. On the season he has allowed eight hits in 16 innings with 24 strikeouts. In May he was added to the Boston Red Sox bullpen as their left-handed specialist. On June 16, Holtz was designated for assignment by the Red Sox and released ten days later.
