[edit] Playing career
[edit] Pre-NHL years
Fisher grew up playing hockey in the Peterborough Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) with the rep Minor Petes program. He was a 2nd round selection of the OHL's Sudbury Wolves in the 1997 OHL Priority Selection from the Peterborough Roadrunners Jr. A. (OHA) team.
Fisher, a devout Christian, was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario and played junior hockey in his native land, and then with the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL. Fisher was then drafted 44th overall in the second round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Senators.
[edit] Fisher's play and Senator years
Fisher is known for his aggressive play, but he has also shown a great deal of speed and skill. In 2005-2006, Fisher had a career year, setting new personal bests in goals (22), assists (22), points (44), +/- (+23), penalty minutes (64), shots on goal (149) and shooting percentage (14.09%) in just a mere 67 games, helping the Senators clinch the Eastern Conference regular season championship. He was selected as nominee for the Frank J. Selke Trophy for the best defensive forward to which the eventual winner was Stanley Cup champion Rod Brind'Amour. As a fan favourite, he is also recognized for being a two-way forward, and can also specialize in killing penalties. When one of the three Senator captains cannot play due to injury, the coaching staff decided Fisher be the back-up assistant captain from his great devotion to the game.
During the lockout-year, he played for the EV Zug in Switzerland and was a very important player there. Fisher has also been a guest instructor at the Roger Nielson Hockey Camp.
On December 27, 2006, from his rambunctious play, Fisher injured his right knee, but returned to the line-up soon after fellow centreman Jason Spezza after a 4 week span. Due to this, reaching new career highs this year would be doubtful, and a given stat would be hits, as prior to the injury he led the NHL in hits. It would be worse for the Senators as Spezza was out but returned on Saturday, January 27 against the Boston Bruins (in a 3-1 win) who was also out for an extended period of time with a sore knee.
