Miguel Angel Reyes was born in Colima, Mexico in 1964. He immigrated with his family in 1975 to the United States residing in Southern California. He did not know clearly what he wanted to do in life but after being a good student until his undergraduate years, he felt that he deserved to do what he wanted to do. Reyes wanted to illustrate. There he attended, at the time called, Otis Art Institute/Parsons School of Design, which is now Otis College of Art and Design and graduated with a BFA in Illustration.

His love for visual arts caused him to experiment with many areas of study. In 1993, he worked for a season as a jazz and modern dancer for the San Diego Dance Theater. Even though his first love is portraiture, his knowledge of anatomy and rhythm has aided him in creating his unique compositions.

In 1995, he started out as an accomplished muralist who accomplished a 750 foot mural, one of the largest mural projects in Los Angeles, at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Argyle titled Amistades (Friendships). The project was commissioned for the Red Line by MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) prior to the opening of the Hollywood Red Line. It consisted of portraits of real people, and organic flowers that were blown up to the size of the portraits. [1]

Reyes has had fifteen solo exhibits and has been featured in over a hundred group shows throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe and Asia since 1989. He’s had opportunities to have his works in major museums, as well as illustrate for memorable clients.

He is a portrait and figurative painter, muralist, printmaker, and illustrator who is nothing short of every being bored in his day to day routine. When he is not helping to produce a show, he is assisting an art auction. He uses his talents to give back to the community, seeing self-improvement as the motivation. Reyes also believes that this is his way of giving back to the community through being involved in organizations that are personal to him.

As a regular contributor to a range of causes such as Project Angel Food, Self-Help Graphics, and CARECEN (Central American Refugee Center), he not only contributes works but also his time and experience. [2]

He currently is a Model Drawing instructor at the Fashion Department of Otis as well as constantly working on upcoming shows and exhibitions.
