Migration Institute of Australia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Migration Institute of Australia (M.I.A.) is a professional organisation representing Migration Agents in Australia.
[edit] Overview
The M.I.A. has two clear roles:
1. Appointed by the Australian Government to regulate the Migration Agent industry [1] in 1992 [2]. The M.I.A. did this by creating the Migration Agents Registration Authority (The MARA)[3]. Prior to the M.I.A., there was the Australian Migration Consultants Association (AMCA)[4].
2. As a professional body, it provides optional membership for agents that want to have the highest level of professionalism. The M.I.A. does this via:
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities [5]
- Newsletters [6]
- Representing the industry to the Australian government, via submissions [7]. For example, see [8] and [9]
- Having and enforcing a code of conduct [10]
Accoring to their website and the register of agents, approximately 40% of Migration Agents are also members of the M.I.A.
