Miejue

Miejue (Traditional Chinese: 滅絕; Simplified Chinese: 灭绝; pinyin: miè jué) is a major character in the serialized Chinese wuxia novel The Heavenly Sword and the Dragon Saber.
As the third generation leader of the Emei Sect (峨嵋派), Miejue certainly deserves the position considering her abilities as a leader, and her own accomplishments as a pugilist. However, her fiery, conservative, incompassionate personality very much befits that of her Buddhist clergic name, which means to eliminate, This can be seen in how she kills her favorite disciple Ji Xiaofu (紀曉芙) without hesitation for refusing to kill her lover Yang Xiao (楊逍) and her daughter Yang Buhui (楊不悔), how she unhesitantly orders her other disciples to kill the very young Yang Buhui (楊不悔), and how she forces Zhou Zhi Ruo to leave and kill Zhang Wuji (張無忌), who is then the leader of the Ming Cult (明教). Her behaviour in regard to relations with other sects is rather typical of other sect leaders, as she keeps the secrets of the Sword and the Sabre with the goal of overcoming Shaolin and Wudang, which is decidedly in contrast to the fact that those two sects had earned their prestige and power through virtuous conduct. She is however fearless, and though unforgiving and incompassionate but it is stated in the novel that her sword never slays the innocent. (One must keep in mind however, that her definition of innocence quite different from the views of other characters and the author)
In the movies and TV series it is never said why Miejue hates the Ming Cult so much, though this is generally presumed to be as a result of her own conservative prejudices, however, her hatred is drawn from the fact that her own blood brother was one of the innocent victims in one of Xie Shun's murderous rampages to flush out his master; her sect brother Guxiongzi's death was indirectly caused by that of Yang Xiao.
