Midway City

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Midway City is one of many fictional cities in the DC Universe, the shared universe of comic book titles published by DC Comics. Midway is always shown to be a midwestern city probably based on the real world city of Chicago, Illinois. (It is not Chicago, as Chicago also exists in the DCU.) In an "Ask the Answer Man" column printed in DC publications in the 1970s[issue # needed], it was stated that Midway City was in Michigan. This statement has since been reasserted in assorted official [1] and licensed [2] publications.

Midway City is most famous for once being the home of the superhero couple, Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Hawkman (Carter Hall) used to be the curator of the Midway City Museum but he now resides in St. Roch, Louisiana.

Midway City was also the original home of the strange superhero group known as Doom Patrol. Midway City will also be the new home of the Un-men, a new ongoing series written by John Whalen and drawn by Mike Hawthorne for DC's imprint company, vertigo comics. [3]

Midway City is an unincorporated community located in Orange County, California. It is bordered by the cities of Westminster to its east and Huntington Beach to its west. It was so named because it is midway between Long Beach, California and Santa Ana.

It is one of Orange County's oldest communities, and many of its homes are 1950s construction. It includes two mobile home parks. The residents that live here are moderate income, with many of them senior citizens. Although it is only 2.4 square miles (6.2 kmĀ²), it has over 15,000 residents.

Recently, the Local Agency Formation Commission announced that the community might be annexed to Huntington Beach, which is the city that is most financially capable of encompassing the community. Prior attempts for annexation has met fierce resistance from its residents who would rather stay an unincorporated area of the county. Signature drives have been highly successful in repelling annexation attempts from not only Huntington Beach, but the city of Westminster to its Southwest.
