Midtdjurs municipality

Midtdjurs ("Central Djursland") is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Aarhus County on the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality, in the middle of a region known as Djursland, covers an area of 179 km², and has a total population of 7.763 (2005). Its mayor is Kim Dalgaard Poulsen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.
The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Kolind.
Neighboring municipalities are Ebeltoft and Grenaa to the east, Nørre Djurs and Rougsø to the north, Sønderhald and Rosenholm to the west, and Rønde to the south.
The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes:
- Ebdrup Parish
- Koed Parish
- Kolind Parish
- Marie Magdalene Parish
- Nimtofte Parish
- Nødager Parish
- Skarresø Parish
- Tøstrup Parish
By January 1, 2007 Midtdjurs municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Ebeltoft, Rosenholm, and Rønde municipalities to form the new Syddjurs municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 693 km² and a total population of 40,196 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Midtjylland ("Mid-Jutland Region").
