Midrasha

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A midrasha (Hebrew: מדרשה pl. midrashot) is an institution of Torah study for women. It is roughly the equivalent of a yeshiva, and is normally Orthodox. The term is often translated as seminary.

More so than Yeshivot, Midrashot vary in curriculum and hashkafa (Hebrew: worldview, outlook, beliefs within orthodox Judaism) - depending on the movement within which based. Left-leaning midrashot often place more emphasis on Talmud, as in men's yeshivot, while right-leaning midrashot emphasize Bible, Jewish Philosophy, and Mussar (ethics).
