Midoriyama

Midoriyama Middle School (緑山中学校?) is a rival school in the anime and manga series The Prince of Tennis. In the manga, the school's tennis team team defeats Jyosei Shonan in the first round of the Kantou Tournament, and plays against Seigaku in the second round. However, in the anime, it is the other way around; Jyosei Shonan beats Midoriyama and moves on to play against Seigaku. As such, Midoriyama is never shown in the anime, only given an offhand mention.

Despite their confidence in their skills due to the coaching team (team of three professionals, led by former pro tennis player Taizou Kiraku), Midoriyama was defeated by Seigaku in three straight sets. One of the main factors in their loss is their indifference to tennis itself - Taizou Kiraku, father of Yasuyuki Kiraku, admitted to Nanjiro Echizen that Yasuyuki's love for tennis has diminished over time as Taizou continued forcing him to learn. Being defeated almost effortlessly by Seigaku taught Midoriyama a lesson and to reform themselves.

Midoriyama managed to secure one of the two consolation spots to the Nationals and thus was one of the six teams of Kantou appearing in the Nationals. However, they were defeated by Kuroshio, and failed to make it to the quarterfinals.
