Midnight Live is the name of a rising suck/jam band from Charlottesville, VA featuring the eclectic (non-musical) styles and jazzy grooves found from such bands as Miami Sound Machine, The Allman Brothers Band, and the Oneders;the kind of shit that keeps a bar selling drinks (to try and make the music sound better). Midnight Live started off playing salsa swing waltzes at a Holiday Inn for a then impressive $17.85/gig (1998 dollars). The band was then dropped in favor of the well known Murph and the Magictones. The band nearly split when they hit rock bottom after losing their regular gig at a gay pride convention center when officials decided that, "they gave gays a bad rap." Some of the members also became fed up with the drummer's Snapple addiction. Snapple Apple and Diet Cranberry Raspberry were draining the bands funds, instruments were sold for cardboard cutout replacements and lesser known garage recordings from Avril Lavigne's early career (used as warm-up jam tracks). In the musical hoggleboggle that Midnight Live had become, a new band was created when Gary Plankerton was replaced after he died from seizure during a 23/17 time blues session (considered standard time for Bidnight Hives). While traveling on the highway in their Government Surplus Mail Truck, the vehicle's driver consumed an entire eight ball of cocaine, knocking himself unconscious. The truck crashed and was totaled, and the band spent 3 years together in a coma in the same hospital bed. When they serendipitously all awoke within a week from each other, they each had the passion and skills to play a totally new form of music: Fraggle rock. Perhaps it was divine intervention, or perhaps it was the local Celine Dion radio station playing in their hospital room for three years, but the collective coma which had reinvented this band started them on a path towards musical deliciousness, based on Gwen Stefani's wardrobe, that the Charlottesville community was afraid to groove to. The coma had also instilled an appreciation for the importance of education, and the band soon began attending classes at the University of Virginia. After realizing they were not registered students, they threw out the textbooks they had found in the library and picked up their instruments full time, only to dominate the techno-reggae-prog-rock industry, knocking out former queens Ace of Bass. Midnight Live is currently playing parties, bars, and other events at the University.
