- 1872 - Union High School opens its doors. The building was destroyed in a fire in 1907.
- 1908 - $11,000 USD is donated by the Dow Chemical Company to help rebuild the high school. The name changes to Midland High School with the opening of the new building, which was closed and demolished later in 1957 after later being used as an elementary school and intermediate school. The site of the former building is now known as Grove Park.
- 1937 - The third building and location of Midland High School is built (still in use, currently known as Central Middle School)
- 1955 - Construction on the current facility is completed. The first students to utilize the building are the members of the Midland High 1956 - 1957 school year.
- 2005 - Construction is started on two additions to the building - a new gymnasium and music wing.
- 2006 - Construction on the new gymnasium and music wing is completed.
- 2007 - Midland High will start construction on a new front entrance to the school facing Eastlawn Drive, as well as a new pick-up/drop-off area to help make the time before school less hectic and make the high school look more modern.
- 2007 - Midland High School will become an International Baccalaureate school, and begin offering IB courses.

Midland High School provides its students with a wide array of extracurricular activities. Among them:
- Business Professionals of America (several national champion teams)
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) Club
- DECA
- National Honor Society
- Band, Orchestra, and Choir
- Drama (three productions a year, including a musical and competition piece)
- Forensics
- Model United Nations
- Student Council
- Programming Club

Midland High School Chemics have a prominent football team which has gone to playoffs for the past four years and has posted winning records for 30 consecutive years. The annual Midland High School versus Herbert Henry Dow High School, another high school in Midland, football game draws the largest crowds of all athletic events of the school.
Midland High School also has a prominent soccer program, which has gone undefeated in the Saginaw Valley League for three years in a row.
The newly renovated Midland Community Stadium is adjacent to and home to the Chemics football and soccer teams. In addition, the stadium is also shared with Herbert Henry Dow High School.

- The "MCHS" lyric in the fight song is a reference to the school's name at one time, Midland Central High School.
