Midian was a Biblical son of Abraham (through wife Ketura), from whom the nation of Midian was descended. Moses eventually went to war with them as retribution for their corruption of the people of Israel.
Other uses of the term include:
- Sir Richard Burton referred to Saudi Arabia as the Land of Midian in his 1879 book of the same name.
- Clive Barker's 1988 novella Cabal features an underground land of monsters called Midian.
- The book was later made into the film Nightbreed.
- Midian, the fourth album by the gothic/black metal band Cradle of Filth, was based on the book.
- Midian is also the debut album of Goth metal band Aion.
- Soldier of Midian is a 2001 release by Israeli musician Badawi.
- In the manga and OVA series Hellsing, "midian" is a term for vampires, ghouls, and other undead.
- Midian[1] is also a goth club night based in Hex nightclub[2] in Birkenhead, England.
