Middleton park

A semi wooded are south of Leeds centre, comprising of a Golf Course, Small Lake, Woods and a clearing.
The area contains a hugh amount of 'Shaft Mounds' which are thought to be from Medieval mining. Survey work is being done in Spring 2007 and Winter 2007, Spring 2008 to discovery more about these shafts.
The shaft mounds seem to be of various types including Bell pits, Cog and Rung and Whim Gins.
Professional Archaeologist Martin Roe is leading the team from FOMP (Friends of Middleton Park), and South Leeds Archaeology Group.
