Middle man (AIM plugin)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The title of this article should be middle_man (AIM plugin). The initial letter is capitalized and an underscore is substituted or omitted because of technical restrictions.

middle_man is a program created by Krunch Software with the stated purpose of "Enhancing your AIM experience". The AOL Instant Messenger plug-in enhances and extends functionality of AIM to its users. middle_man is a free plug-in, written entirely in C++ by John Tull and Harry Finocchiaro. At first, the project was small and private, incorporating a small fraction of the features it carries today.

middle_man takes the basic idea of "being in the middle" of an AIM connection. Acting very similar to a proxy, middle_man intercepts an AIM connection before it reaches the server and vice versa.

Currently, middle_man is in stage 3 of the 3 planned beta stages. At this point beta 3 has been released and future releases will focus on incorporating additional features and improving stability.
