The Middle East Policy Council or MEPC is a Washington DC based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that deals with issues concerning the Middle East. It was founded in 1981 under the stated mission to "expand public discussion and understanding of issues affecting U.S. policy in the Middle East." The MEPC's website states that it is interested primarily in how the situation in the Middle East impacts on US interests. "Through its programs, publications and Web site, the Council strives to ensure that a full range of U.S. interests and views are considered by policy makers." [1]
MEPC was originally named the American Arab Affairs Council and was co-founded by Richard H. Curtiss, who later founded the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. [2]
