Middelfart municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Funen County on the west coast of the island of Funen in southern Denmark. The municipality includes the island of Fænø, and covers an area of 72 km². It has a total population of 20,486 (2005). Its mayor is Steen Dahlstrøm, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Middelfart.

Neighboring municipalities are Nørre Aaby to the east and south, and Fredericia and Kolding to the west, albeit separated from the municipality by the waters of the Kattegat and the Snævringen ("The Narrowing"), the strait, that separates the island of Funen from the Jutland mainland in this area, where the two lie very close to each other, often less than 1.5 km apart. Snævringen is an extension of the Kattegat, and begins near the cities of Fredericia and Middelfart. To the south of the municipality is Fænø Strait (Fænø Sund), which separates Funen from the municipality's island of Fænø, and Gamborg Fjord, which separates the municipality from a spit of land belonging to neighboring Nørre Aaby municipality that sticks out into the waters.

By January 1, 2007 Middelfart municipality will, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007), be merged with existing Ejby and Nørre Aaby municipalities to form an enlarged Middelfart municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 297 km² and a total population of 36,113 (2005). The municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
