The Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy (abbreviated as IRmep) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization (as of 2003), founded in 2002 in Washington DC[1]. Its stated principal purpose is to be "a think tank working to define, communicate and promote America's true interests in the Middle East."[2].

[edit] Activities

Their activities include media outreach, book publishing, research reports [3][4][5], and participating in various Capitol Hill discussion forums [6] [7], inviting guests such as consumer activist Ralph Nader, Syrian Ambassador Imad Moustapha, PLO Chairman Hassan Abdul Rahman, professor Stephen Zunes of University of San Francisco, and Adam Shapiro, founder of the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement, who shares similar views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict [8].

[edit] Political perspective

[edit] Israeli-Palestinian conflict

According to the IRmep website, "[t]he chief motivation of suicide terrorism is the effort by a population to free themselves of occupation. Washington must cut off "charitable" funding laundered from the US to illegal West Bank settlers who enforce boundaries with bullets and fuel the flames of terror retaliation that can reach the American homeland as well as Tel Aviv." [9]

[edit] Energy security

The IRmep website states that "the United States must engage in culturally sensitive, appropriate development and trade with Arab Gulf states to create sustainable development, jobs, income distribution, and prosperity to stabilize the region" and that the Iraq war and angry rhetoric directed at Iran does not serve a useful purpose.
