Couldn't there be a lot more labelling? Even the mountain ranges aren't labelled, much less many other details. —Steven G. Johnson 02:39, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

It could, but I thought for someone who hadnt read the books it would be better to just show the main locations that are well known - people who have the books probably already have seen the detailed map, that was the idea behind the 'prominent locations' --Astrokey44 11:34, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
A map can be both detailed and highlight certain features, using strategies of layering and color gradations to allow the important features to jump out, but let a person look more closely to see finer details. (There are some very nice books by Tufte, e.g. Envisioning Information, on how this sort of layering works.) Think of a beautiful National Geographic map, for example—they always have amazing detail, and yet are layered so that the important features are not lost in the noise. It would be great to have a detailed ME map following a similar strategy. —Steven G. Johnson 23:26, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
