[edit] Indonesia
Are you really on wikibreak?? he he. Anyway, what do you think of the Indonesian Civil War => to Overthrow of Sukarno move? ACtually, i think it is an improvement although not ideal. (also i don't think much of that guy's style - he buggered it up and left a bit of a mess). Maybe "Downfall of Sukarno" is better? But i admit i had never heard of it referred to as a Civil War. Also, what do you think of the last few days' changes to Indonesia? There have been quite a few. A new section on Natural History. It's currently within Geography as I think there is a definite relationship between them (which I'd like to strengthen) but Imoeng wants to seperate them cos he thinks it's too long - lol. SOme article have FLora & Fauna, but that is very narrow IMO as it Geography-Ecology-F&F is all linked. Also, i extended the Further Reading section. I saw such a section on another country's page, but forgot which. I wanted to add a description of each book, but Imoeng discouraged me from - he likes it as it. --Merbabu 08:21, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Java collaboration
hi MichaelJLowe/Archive 0. Starting today, the Indonesia Collaboration is Java. Come along and help make this a page worthy of the world’s most magnificent island. There’s a suggested to-do list on the the Talk page to which you can add, or just pick a task. All sorts of tasks are required, Images, Citations, Research, Copy Edit, you name it – this important article needs your help!! regards --Merbabu 08:56, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Religion In Indonesia
Saw your comments - I agree wholeheartedly about the fact that there is a world out there that wasnt "official" ifor most of Indonesian national history - my problem is that my refs are not at hand (still) - there were and probably stil are issues that I think will not "fit" easily into the main article - as I was trying to put in a talk item to merbabu a day or so ago -that my interest is in the "difficult" items that need separate articles from the main generalised entry articles - I mean - having been exxposedd to the ephemeral nature of kejawen groups in central java in the early 90's - or the clues about them - they quite possibly simply are belum cocok with current uindertsandings - I dont know SatuSuro 01:51, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for this spam. If you have some time, then could you please chime in FAC? Thanks. — Indon (reply) — 16:25, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Indonesian Chinese vs Chinese Indonesian
Hi -- regarding your recent edits on Overseas Chinese etc., pls see Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken (unless it's a redirect from a misspelling, an incorrect or offensive term, etc.). In this case, both terms "Chinese Indonesian" and "Indonesian Chinese" are widely used and there's no reason to say one is more correct than the other. Thanks! cab 00:40, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Also of interest, see Talk:Malaysian Chinese/Move debate. That didn't come to consensus on much, but one thing to note is that both nationality followed by ethnicity (e.g. British Chinese) and ethnicity followed by nationality (e.g. Chinese American) are grammatically correct in English. There's no rule that says one must follow the other, contrary to what has been asserted (without citation) on Talk:Chinese Indonesian. cab 00:56, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- So how exactly are "Indonesian Chinese" or "Malaysian Chinese" grammatically incorrect? cab 01:16, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Indonesian architecture
The traditional housing section was fun cos there were too many examples from all over Indonesia to cite. But, as I research the religious and colonial sections, I realise a Java focus would have been better. Oh, well - it's still a good place to start. I am sure Indonesian architecture is esoteric enough for most punters! --Merbabu 14:43, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Candi
Fair enough, It'll be a cat fight when I start getting nit-picking with some parts anyways(heheh) enjoy! I love the absent notes on your page and your heavy editing at same time - reminds me of the Douglas Adams thing about Zarniwoop he's off on an interstellar trip... yes he _is_ in his office SatuSuro 15:27, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Architecture
Well, let's be parochial then! ;-) Nice work Candi - it's great. What do you suggest? Maybe expand the opening section, and then slowly create the "child articles"? --Merbabu 15:25, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Geographically challenged tourist brochures and editors etc etc
Prpls produce some of the crppiest maps of java with so many mistajkes - ten years ago I went to great length to explain to them - their checkers couldnt give a dam - they more or less replied with slartibartfast (douglas adams again) nonchalance (who liked his norwegian fjords) that they were pleased with the rivers - after I had pointed out that their roads in the bantul area were impossible! So wrong locations/directions/ and fifty year old railway lines long gone all recurr like anything in almost all maps and guide books - I've long given up taking any of the publishers on about such stuff. As for candi - if they dont show up on a google or clusty check - they're out! IMHO regardless. As for merbabus suggestion - I would be very wary avout child articles for some individual candi - I think it'd be much wiser doing clusters of some as there simply isnt enough to create more than a stub anyway. Oh well, two bobs worth for today SatuSuro 09:53, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi MichaelJLowe/Archive 0! It's the last few days of the Garuda Indonesia collaboration. Please contribute!!!
Also, could you please vote for the next fortnight's collaboration? Please vote down the bottom of this page. The collab for the fortnight will be decided this Sunday 26th (or Monday at the latest). By the way, we could also chose Garuda Indonesia for another week.
So please visit and help choose the next article. Any questions/comments, please let me know. I'd love to hear from you particularly if you have any good suggestions! :-) --Merbabu 10:31, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Infobox
Hey, nice one. I'd like to make also for Borobudur. I can't find any useful box for a monument. Do you have any idea? — Indon (reply) — 09:04, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- I found one: Template:Infobox Historic building, but there's one caveat that one mandatory parameter is "Location Town" of which Borobudur is not in a town. I have asked this to the template's talk page and it seems that the creator agrees to change it. Oh about the picture, yes I agree about it. There is one even better: eo:Dosiero:Borobuduro1.jpg (from esperanto wikipedia), but too bad that it has no license. Actually, there are many good pictures of Borobudur that needed to be allocated in the article. I still have also some ideas about Borobudur ground plans. Oh well, there are still a lot of things to do for this such a great monument. Thanks for your reply. ;-) — Indon (reply) — 11:18, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

- Funny that - the feeling I had when I saw the huge panel/story on Borobudur - simply passed it on to merbabu who deleted it - sometimes it is very wearing on here... :( SatuSuro 05:09, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Airports
Hmm - i certainly agree a good series of articles on airports is important, and for all airports. But, personally, i find editing and reading them a bit, um, dull. Since we are on the aviation, I recently removed a whole section on Garuda's new frequent flyer program. Do you agree a wise move? Btw, i knew you are an aussie but i thought you lived in Indonesia? Oh, and i got some info on Rumah gadang. Actually, it suggests that rumah gadang is the more elaborate versions - for the chiefs/regents, but the ordinary homes, even with the fancy roofs aren't actually rumah gadang. any thoughts? --Merbabu 14:41, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

- Airports - yeah - I used to live within woopee of Adisucipto - if the info sources are easy to track count me in (counts - 1,546th thread to follow up) SatuSuro 14:49, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your web link. Your experiences, are very similar to mine - yet being a completely different island, very different. Wow - what a house!!!! It's gorgeous. So, is Joyce your wife? I heard thru the grapevince/(the late great imoeng) that you are married to a Minangkabauen. You know my wife is Javanese? Orang Salatiga. Hence my username. lol. Sumatra - wow. One day, sigh. I am about to start the oma sebua article. The traditional chief houses of Nias. I love them. Maybe my favourite Indonesian rumah adat. --Merbabu 15:27, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rumah Gadang
I have a text explaining the use of ijuk or sugar palm for the tatch. Do you now the correct dab for sugar palm? My dictionary says, "palm fibre from sugar palm". --Merbabu 16:07, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- ...and, my text describes the rumah gadang as the larger "communal" version, of minangkabau rumah adat. Not regal/chief version. sorry. --Merbabu 16:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Weh Island
Thank you. I think I get addicted now with wikipedia, lol. :-) It was a side-effect article from the list of volcanoes, created a new page, googling once to create a new stub article, digging more, digging more, more and more, hahaha. Oh, I saw your website in geocities (I see your face now ;-) from Merbabu's talk page. Nice to have visited Minangkabau. My wife is also Minang, from Bukittinggi area, but I've never been there, lol. It's been one item in my vacation list.... someday. Again, thanks. — Indon (reply) — 14:53, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- I got a mixture of Java and Melayu (Riau), but grew up in Sundanese area (Bandung), then got a wife from Minang who's parents live in Medan. So I guess that's we call it Indonesia, lol. Worse that I only speak harsh Sundanese from the street. :-) — Indon (reply) — 12:32, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WPI on indonesian localities
I had put a whole range of Indonesian locations on my watch list - and have noticed they have no wp tags on their talk pages - I am thinking of doing so - I'd be interested to know whether you think there's a problem with that or no. Hey cannot believe your productivity! Well done! SatuSuro 12:21, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Most of them are the stub locations that you have been working on with the regency and distruct boxes - so I know that here and there I can add bits and pieces so I might do it manually anyway,,, but I know in early stages of WPI there was considerable antagonism about too much material being placed in midlle or higher status - at least i know most are stubs! When I get my wali sanga and sacred places lists working (if ever) - tying into localities and districts will be v. useful SatuSuro 22:16, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Wow you were in there while I went out for a few minutes! I'm impressed... (Candi Suwarono - i bet it needs a redirect for that transcrption - viz the split wali sanga songo arts) have you had any barnstars for speed yet? SatuSuro 02:46, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

- Ok - unfortunately - in time (ie delayed as I am only just finding the boxes from the big shift, its then sorting and scanning and then getting onto commons) - maybe some of the following C. Kalasan, C.Sari, C.Sambisari, C.Abang, possibly part of Ratu Boko, C. Plaosan, C. Mendut, - oh btw -0 what you do with the Ratu Boko article? cheers SatuSuro 05:39, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Map
Nice work on the changes. I wanted to make a few more but need the refs. If you make more changes, perhaps you should actually create a new file and just re-link it into the articles - just in case a revert is demanded, or at least so we can show the diffs. I doubt there would be a problem, but just in case - religion can be sensitive!! Merbabu 07:20, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your edit on Demographics of Indonesia
Any particular reason for this edit? In general I would suggest you use the "Edit summary" field more often so --- and leaving an automatic edit summary like "Revert to revision 95526684 dated 2006-12-20 15:12:26 by Fayenatic london using popups" is not particularly helpful when dealing with edits which aren't vandalism. As for Indonesians in Hong Kong, seeing as you disagree with putting it in Demographics of Indonesia, do you know of a more appropriate place the link should go? Regards, cab 04:12, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rumah gadang
Nice work on our collab. I think between the two of us we have developed an article more than any other official INdonesia collab ever has! You are getting a lot of good detailed info in there. How do you feel about putting in-line citations in there from you recent updates? I know you have the refs near by ;-) Anyway, I think i might go and work on another architectural style.Merbabu 07:29, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've slotted Rumah Gadang in for Indonesia portal article of the week the first two weeks of Feb. Is that OK? Merbabu 12:11, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Recent message
Hi, i got your recent message about Rumah Gadang moving up a G. Do you mean it's now got a capital letter? lol Merbabu 12:24, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh no, not another talking in riddles. Well, my architecture tally:
- Tongkonan is no. 4 still, but it is younger.
- Omo sebua is no.1 (although it is younger than tongkonan - but has stuff all competition)
- Indonesian architecture is 4 or 5. (that bugs me)
- Pendopo is no. 2

[edit] Thanks
For putting WPI tags on talk pages - it is appreciated. I'm reducing my saga to deal with a few other projects in the next day or so, so its good to see that its happening. Whats intriguing at times is that articles with obvious mid to high status have no sign of the WPI tag at all...SatuSuro 01:53, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

- Not an AWB bot in sight on my part - I actually want to see how bad most of the stubs are! I would say it would take one person at one hour a day to properly populate and correct the amazing range of errors and idiotic edits in thw full project - about a year to fix them SatuSuro 04:10, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Presidential and VP templates.
Hi Michael. Can you provide comment here [1] on templates that have been put into the Indoensia presidential and VP biographies - if you can. Please read my comments. While I think the new templates are good (complete and they look much nicer compared to the other) we can't have two templates and compared to the existing, the new ones lose the chronological order and do not show the president at the time.Merbabu 02:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Museum of Sydney
This popped up in my watch list, and it was you! (although I deleted the tourist info that someone else added). Did you notice Governor Phillip Tower while you were there? Mostly my work [2] I'd like to do a few more sydney skyscrapers probably Aurora Place first. Merbabu 03:45, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- he he - civil engineer. Wish i was an architect though. Agreed, I much prefer Aurora (and Deutsche Bank, Grosvenor, AMP Centre, Australia Square, Horizon, and the other new Norman Foster apartment) over GPT. GPT is fine though. Merbabu 04:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- Re Gehry, I think we need to call him in to do something in place of this peice of crap. They tried some years back but of course there was outrage. Anything built 50 years ago (even if it is a reinforced, sandstone glad, pastiche of an imitation of Art Deco) is much more noteworthy than one of the world's greatest. So typical Sydney - glorify crap simply because it is old(ish). Hang on, I'm going to a wedding there tomorrow night!!! Merbabu 05:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

An image you uploaded, Image:Yogya Symbol.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. [edit] List of volcanoes in Indonesia
Hi Michael, thanks for your comments. I've added the fatalities for Galunggung 1982 eruption and will add more. I'm a bit confused with the reviewers that all complain the prose of the article. I thought the list is supposed to focus more on the list itself. I've been trying to improve the written part, that only a small fraction, but it seems I've never satisfied everyone. If you have a time, then could you please read the written part and point me where the bad prose is. Thanks. — Indon (reply) — 16:49, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

- I dont necessarily have strong opinions - I am quite prepared to listen to other sides to all this and am prepared to drop an idea if it is shown be to no good for the project.
- I agree with your point about following other Wikipedia projects - if they have parituclar precceddents- we follow - In this particular context- I am offering an opinion or suggestion that -
- (a) that the large number of sub standard stubs that I have been tagging should be either populated or fixed up before getting a portal tag
- (b) project and category pages are 'id' ed so to speak
- If it works - or can be seen to be consistent with pracctice in other projects - great -if not and some other practice is in place- I'll drop it - but if stubs are includec - someone better find a bot to do the Portal tagging :(

Yoh we now have a cat buried at Imogiri (my research location 95/96) and a cat sultans of yog - they coincide bar HBII whos lucky enough to be interred at Kota Gede - do you reckon we can live with that? SatuSuro 01:50, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- My apologies - translation - there are now Category;Persons buried at Imogiri and Category:Sultans of Yogyakarta - except for HBII- the two categories hold the same persons - is what I was trying to say.
Only when the Imogiri article (or derivative article with much more detailed burial lists) are further developed to include more than the HB's and PB's - (of the four different burial lists/or plans that I possess that were brought at the warungs on the steps there - from the 1980's amd 1990's - only the rulers are identified) it will seem that there are categories that have exactly the same inhabitants. No big deal I realise, but I would be very careful that we make sure no further categories creep in in this area... as they really are covered with these two. It may seem odd at this stage - but once the two categories are populated - there might be some issues that arise - but I will wait till then Sorry for sending cryptic garbled messages as always :) . [edit] Malay
oh dear, stirring up a honest nest there!! Maybe it is one that needs to be stirred. lol. I've often heard the term 'malay' used in the same way as causcasion is although, I am not saying i know it to be correct. And, I think it is not simpy the Malaysian government pushing it. These were English texts. Merbabu 10:33, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Michael. Malays in Malaysian goes far beyond political boundaries; simply to distant themselves (pribumi) with overseas races. They want to include themselves with other Indonesian ethnic groups, but from Aceh to Papua (??). Simply saying Papuans as Malays is already too far. — Indon (reply) — 10:53, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- Btw, it's hornet's nest, Merbabu - not "honest nest". Is that what Michael told you too? So, you agree with Michael on that too, Indon? ;) Since when are hornets honest? --Fantastic4boy 00:30, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox Island
Cool, man. I think the maximum number of countries in one island is three. I don't recall any with more than that. — Indon (reply) — 10:00, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- I've done something with country, country 1 and country 2 sections. A good example is Borneo. So, shall we move to Infobox Island? — Indon (reply) — 15:15, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
I think largest city is properly related to the area, not the population. However, which one is better, largest city for different countries, or for the whole island? I am thinking also to put some vegetation/land type info, such as percentage of forests, plantations, etc., but it wouldn't be a good idea if there are no data about it. — Indon (reply) — 08:53, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, but it's a bit strange to me. Let's say a small area of a city with highly densed population is "smaller" than a large area of city with sparse one? In the population case, we should put density inside the parenthesis then, instead of area. Anway, I'm don't really object if the largest city is in terms of population. — Indon (reply) — 10:33, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
I concur. ;-) — Indon (reply) — 10:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Adam Air crash article
Hey, thanks for your compliments on my ongoing work to the Adam Air Flight 574 article. It's nice to hear from time to time that one's contributions are apreciated. Out of interest, any ideas for where to take the article next? (assuming they don't find the thing sometime between this post and your reply, or any other huge developments like that.) Blood Red Sandman Open Up Your Heart - Receive My EviLove 18:07, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- That was the impression I had been getting. I guess that leaves us with little to do but wait... Blood Red Sandman Open Up Your Heart - Receive My EviLove 13:42, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for the article. I've read part-way through, and already some quite revealing things are emerging. Most of it's going to end up in the Adam Air article, but I'm going to spin off a section on the legal/safety issues in the crash article itself; it's really quite relevant to the accident. - Thanks again, sounds like there could be some quite interesting stuff in there. I've no time to read the thread now though; major edit tag is going up on Adam Air, and I'm going to use the source you gave me, and the one that my recent expansion is based on, and try (hopefuly neutraly, if indeed that's even possible here) to put together some kind of accurate coverage of the corrruption and lax safety standards. It's time someone did it. Blood Red Sandman Open Up Your Heart - Receive My EviLove 23:26, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

- I've had a bash at putting the information into the Adam Air article, but it's hard to stick to the all-important NPOV and to avoid original research, and I'm far from happy with what's written there. But it's the best I've come up with so far. I wonder if America will stand by and allow this to continue; they've spent quite a bit of money with the deployment of the Mary Sears, and probably won't be happy to see it wasted by blatant corruption and wet regulators. Blood Red Sandman Open Up Your Heart - Receive My EviLove 00:38, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. The most important thing to bear in mind is, they've done it before, just not against blatant corruption, which I think will make it even more likely. That accident (if I remember correctly) had no Americans on it at all, so you would think America would do something for it's own people. - Once again, I must say thanks again for the links, you really seem to know how to get the really good stuff. Were it not for you're previous research, the Adam Air article would not show up the company for the corrupt, deliberatly unsafe organisation that it is. Ok, so it's not exactly a stunning piece of work, but at least the info is in there. As for these ones, some good expansion potential in there. [edit] [[Indonesia]]n
lol - now you are having a go too! The Indonesian dab is probably a good thing, because many links incorrectly link to the language page when they should be going to the country page. A lot of boring work, though! --Merbabu 03:34, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Using English
Hello - I'm contacting you because of your statement regarding using English instead of foreign terms in articles. A few are trying to "Anglicise" French terms in Wiki articles according to the correct dictionary definitions but there is some resistance (eg/: "Région => Region"; "Département => Departement"). Your input would be appreciated here page. Thankyou. --Bob 16:06, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nusa Kambangan or Kambangan Island
Hi Michael, I was just wondering about the article name. In Indonesian language, the island is called Pulau Nusa Kambangan, instead of Pulau Kambangan. The word "Nusa" is an old term for "Pulau" and people do not consider it as island anymore. It's the same way of Nusa Tenggara (Southeast Islands), Nusa Dua (Two Islands), etc. — Indon (reply) — 08:59, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, Brittanica is a bit strange, I think. For "Nusa Tenggara Barat", they use West Nusa Tenggara, although they mention also "Nusa Tenggara" is an Indonesian name of Southeast Islands: [4]. In Indonesia, Nusa Tenggara is referred as "Kepulauan Nusa Tenggara", instead of "Kepulauan Tenggara". Let me search sources about Nusa Kambangan first. — Indon (reply) — 09:18, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox city
I have given my comments. Basically, it would be very good if the Infobox City template supports Location map template. However, I found the general infobox city has a lot of wasted parameters for Indonesian cities. For instance, the metro and urban areas, which are not familiar in Indonesia, etc. Plus it's a bit dull. :-) I have played around with the new template here: User:Indon/qeg, but if they (the Infobox City template) have supported the location map, then I'll stop the new template. — Indon (reply) — 09:18, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- How about using the other countries way of the infobox adaptation (India, Canada, Belgium, Germany, etc.)? I think it is the best way, because generic template will not satisfy all. If you give me a 'green light', then I will continue with my template and then proposing it to the project. Right now, it's not yet finished. :-) — Indon (reply) — 13:32, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Hey, thanks. I saw the Infobox City has included your suggestion. It's good now the template can use Location map template. I will then stop my own Infobox template now. :( Oh, I see heated debates on Malay and somebody attacked you. What a moron he is. — Indon (reply) — 09:36, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- We (me and Bwmodular) are working to set the detailed map of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Lesser Sunda Islands, Maluku Islands and Western New Guinea for location maps. The difficult part is to set boundix box geo-coordinates. Just wait. ;-) — Indon (reply) — 11:17, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Personal attacks
No doubt you have seen FRM SYD's comments on the Malays (ethnic group) talk page. I actually decided to remove the personal attacks [5]. I also left comment on his talk page. I'm really confused on his position. Merbabu 00:12, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jawa Pesisir Lor
That's the first time I heard about the group. We should ask SatuSuro maybe. I tried to search, all information came from Church missionaries group. In the Joshua Project, they define many terms of ethnicity or sub-ethnic groups that are vulnerable for their missions, but I don't know if the term is valid in the academic world. I couldn't find anything in the old journals. The article was created by a single user, contributed only to that page. I will ask him/her about its notability then. — Indon (reply) — 08:49, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
