Michel Sauret was born in Rome, Italy (April 2, 1985) and moved with his family of seven to Pittsburgh, Pa. on July 19, 1995-- which was also his father's birthday (Alain M. Sauret).
Michel is the author of one novel and four published short stories. His first published novel was named “Breathing God” printed by Publish America. His short stories—in order of publication dates—are: “Out of a Dream” “The Follower” “The Problem with My Shoes” and “The Duct Tape People.” He’s also collaborated in writing the medical book “Generation Toxic” by chiropractor and nutritionist Dr. Daniel Pompa.
Once in the United States, Michel and his brothers and sisters had a very limited knowledge of English, but they picked up the language through school and by making friends.
One linguistic blunder that Michel made by accident was mistaking the word "eraser" for "rubber" because the few words he knew were from the British form of English, not the American version. Therefore one day in school when Michel was in fifth grade Michel turned to a friend and asked, "Can I please borrow your rubber? I made a mistake."
Throughout the years, Michel became more and more proficient in his English and his Italian accent faded.
When Michel's family moved again to Corpus Christi, TX (July 2002) Michel was a senior in high school. Having to start over in meeting and making friends, Michel struggled to do so in a city and state in which he felt like an outsider. There, he spent more time on writing—a craft which he first took as a pastime and hobby.
By the age of 17 Michel had written a few short stories and had started to work on what would later become his first novel, “Breathing God.” Originally the book was named “Chosen” but was changed upon request of his Publisher two years later when it was published in 2005. While writing the book, Michel met with a group of other writers at the University of Our Lady of Corpus Christi. Michel did not attend there, but his father, Alain, was the Academic Dean at the school.
In Texas, Michel also joined the Army Reserve, and after graduating for high school he attended basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Once he graduated there, he went to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, for his Army schooling in becoming a Track Vehicle Mechanic.
Once his Army training was over, Michel entered the University of Pittsburgh (Main) in the spring of 2004. There, he began his studies as a Studio Arts major and later switched to English Writing. Also in Pittsburgh, Michel joined the 354th Mobile Public Affair Detachment in the Army Reserve and became a military journalist.
In the spring of 2006 Michel met chiropractor and nutritionist Dr. Dan Pompa and was asked to help write a book on toxicity. The book is scheduled to print by 2007.
Michel is now working on a book called “Make it Hurt” which recounts his experience in Fort Knox during his Basic Combat Training. He also has a collection of short stories which he hopes to build on and bundle into a book. All of the stories are interconnected in some way or another, and the collection will be called “No Coincidence." No publication date is set for either of those books.
Michel plans on becoming an American Citizen on July 19, 2006—exactly eleven years after arriving to the United States.
