Microban
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Microban is an proprietary antimicrobial substance which is embedded into hard surfaces and textiles for consumer, industrial and medical applications. Microban is produced and marketed by Microban International Ltd., which claims its brand appears on over 450 products.[1] The exact formulation is secret, but a few studies mention that Microban contains Triclosan.[2][3]
[edit] Safety
Microban has been in use for at least 30 years[1], but there are concerns about inhalation toxicity of the spray form of Microban[4]. It should be noted that the concerns relate to the spray, and not necessarily Microban in finished products.
[edit] Applications
Antimicrobial applications are innumerable, including:
- Shower curtains
- Humidifiers
- Children's toys
- Hospital bedding
- Computer touchscreens
