Michael "Micky" Mellon (born March 18, 1972 in Paisley, Renfrewshire) is a Scottish professional footballer.

Mellon began his career as a 17-year-old with Bristol City, then managed by Joe Jordan. He spent four years at Ashton Gate, before joining Midlanders West Brom. It was his move to Blackpool in 1994, however, that saw him establish himself as a regular on the team- and scoresheet. Under Sam Allardyce's guidance, Mellon made 138 appearances and scored 17 goals in all competitions.

The season following Allardyce's sacking, Mellon moved up a division to join Tranmere Rovers. He spent two seasons at Prenton Park, followed by another two with Burnley, but would return to the club on two more occasions - firstly on loan in 2001, and then on a free transfer later that season.

In recent years, Mellon has played for Kidderminster Harriers. He was a member of the team that made the third round of the FA Cup before being knocked out by Premiership side and local rivals Wolves, albeit after a replay.

After leaving Harriers, Mellon spent a short spell at Witton Albion in 2005 before joining Lancaster City. He later became assistant manager of the Lancashire club, but problems regarding the paying of wages led to his walking out on the club, along with several players and other members of the coaching staff.

[edit] Trivia

  • Although he's a Scot, Mellon has never played professionally in his native land.
