Michael John Harris is a British musician.
He first came to attention as a drummer working with various punk groups (most notably Napalm Death), but since the mid-1990s, has worked primarily in electronic music and ambient.
[edit] Biography
Harris's recording debut was as Napalm Death's second drummer. He joined after one of the founding members (Miles "The Rat" Ratledge) left the band in November 1985. His first live appearance with the band was on January 18, 1986, opening for Amebix. Harris was the sole band member who remained in the tumultuous group through many line-up changes and finally left in 1991, just after the tour for Harmony Corruption.
While in Napalm Death, Harris also played drums for Doom and Extreme Noise Terror, and participated in a side project with Mitch Harris called Defecation, which produced one record, Purity Dilution, through Nuclear Blast. A second Defecation album was written, but Earache Records forbid them to release it (since it was set to be released through Nuclear Blast), so it was shelved.
After leaving Napalm Death, he joined the band's original bassist/lead singer Nic Bullen, and founded Scorn. Scorn released several albums and EPs, being quite successful. Due to personal problems, Nicholas left Scorn in 1995. Harris kept recording and playing under the Scorn moniker, but the band finally broke up in 1997.
Harris has worked on many other projects, such as Lull and Painkiller), and has collaborated with James Plotkin, Justin Broadrick and Bill Laswell. More information about his prolific music career can be found at [1].
Harris also got behind the drum kit in 2002 to record three Grindcore tracks under the name 'Rhinocharge'. This was never released.
