[edit] BIOGRAPHY
Michael Wang, an award winning commercial director grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the Age of 15, Michael directed his first short film, on a borrowed Super 8 camera he got from his brother, award winning make-up effects artist and director Steve Wang. Michael and his friends shot an experimental short film to the George Michael song "Mothers Pride." The clip was a narrative story about a mothers strength when they watch their sons go to war. The clip was an introduction into directing for Michael, who thanks his brother Steve for giving him pointers on filmmaking.
When Michael turned 23, he directed two spec commercials that eventually got him signed to The U Ground, one of the hottest commercial and music video companies at the time. Michael's first commercial with U Ground was an Anheuser Busch spot called "What Guys Want." The commercial is a narrative story of a sexy girl getting ready for a night on the town. Once she is dressed, she realizes there is something missing. She walks into her kitchen and opens up her refrigerator and grabs a Budweiser. She opens up the bottle and dabbles a few drops on her neck as the scene ends with her mischievous smile. A remake of The Waitresses song, "I Know What Boys Like" plays over the spot.
From there, Michael Wang also known as "Mike Wang" in the Advertising World, has directed many memorable commercials for Anheuser Busch, Heineken, Mercedes-Benz, Fox Sports, Bridgestone, Namco, Wendys, and most recently Gateway Computers. Michael is best known for the award winning Bud Light "Centerfold" spot for Anheuser Busch. In that spot, a young guy spills his Bud Light onto a racy centerfold magazine. As the man tries to salvage the last remnants of his Bud Light by lifting the magazine and pouring it into his mouth, his wife and mother-in-law walk in on him in a rather compromising position.
Michael Wang has teamed up with his brother Steve Wang on "Kamen Rider Dragon Knight," (an adaptation of Kamen Rider Ryuki) The show is a second attempt at reviving the Masked Rider (TV series) and Kamen Rider franchise in the United States. They are directing and producing as "The Wang Brothers."
