Michael Valkanis (born August 23, 1974 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays in the position as a central defender. He currently plays for Adelaide United in the newly formed Hyundai A-League. Valkanis' international debut was for the Socceroos in an Asian Cup qualifier versus Kuwait at Aussie Stadium on the 16 August 2006.
He has previously spent time in the Greek League with Iraklis FC, Larissa FC (now called AEL 1964) and Agios Nikolaos. He played 110 games in the now-defunct National Soccer League scoring 4 goals with South Melbourne F.C., Adelaide City and Adelaide United.
He was rewarded for his outstanding first year in the A-League with Socceroo call-ups.
