Michael Sullivan (Limerick)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Michael Sullivan was born in Limerick, Ireland on July 8, 1847. He was a native of Springfield, Parish of Dromcolliher, County Limerick, Ireland. During the earlier years of his life he had exhibited more than a passive interest in the cause of his native land. With Peter O’Neill Crowley, the “Hero of Kilclooney Wood,” the most famous of the famous Fenian Risings, young Sullivan was one of his most trusted lieutenants. When he came to the United States in 1871, he still maintained his connection with every political effort made here for the improvement of his native land. When the celebrated Irish revolutionary chieftain, James Stephens (Irish Nationalist), came here shortly after the formation of the Irish Land League, he had no more steadfast supporter than Michael Sullivan.
Michael Sullivan died on May 29, 1895 in New York City. He was survived by his wife Catherine Walsh Sullivan originally from Broadford, Ireland, and three sons: Michael V, John F, and James E.
