Michael Smith was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, US where he attended Mcdonough 35 Sr. High and played quarterback for his high school team. He is now an NFL reporter for ESPN. He is a regular guest on the channel's Around the Horn. He has won "Facetime" on Around the Horn 74 times (as of March 6,2007). He has also written for the Boston Globe.

Michael Smith joined ESPN full time in September 2004 as an NFL reporter and a regular on Around the Horn. Smith covered the New England Patriots at the Boston Globe for three years.

Michael Smith attended Loyola University of New Orleans.
