Michael Smith (born 1942) is an Irish poet, author and translator. He was one of the founders of New Writers Press in Dublin (together with Trevor Joyce). He is possibly most noted for his works on James Clarence Mangan, as well as his Spanish to English poetry translations. He regularly contributes articles for the literature section of The Irish Times. In 2001, he took the European Academy Medal for his work in the translation of poetry. This was awarded by the European Academy of Poetry. In 2005, he was elected as a member of Aosdána.
