Michael R. Gibbons

Michael R. Gibbons (born March 24, 1959), is an attorney and a Republican Missouri politician who currently serves as President pro tempore of the Missouri State Senate. He currently resides in Kirkwood, Missouri, and is an active Episcopalian.

He is a graduate of Westminster College, Missouri and of the Saint Louis University School of Law. He married Elizabeth Weddell in 1988, and they have two children, Danny and Meredith. He has held a number of public leadership positions, including Deputy Mayor of Kirkwood, Minority Caucus Chair and Assistant Floor Leader of the Missouri House of Representatives, and Chair of the Ways and Means Committee and Majority Floor Leader in the Missouri State Senate.

He was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 1992, and served in that body through 2000. He was then elected to the Missouri State Senate, and served in that body continuously since then. He is currently on the following committees:

  • Chair of Gubernatorial Appointments Committee
  • Pensions, Veteran's Affairs and General Laws
  • Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics
