Mulvey was raised in Dallas and grew up in the RISD school system. He played both bassoon in the Richardson High School band and was a photographer for the TALON newspaper and high school year book. He graduated from Richardson High School in 1986, attended Texas A&M University where he graduated with with a B.S degree in Journalism.
Michael Mulvey has been with the Dallas Morning News since 1996 and was previously a photographer with the Reuters News Agency. Mulvey was awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize (www.pulizter.org) at Columbia University for Breaking News Photography. Mulvey was awarded the Pulitzer for documenting the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina. Mulvey's career also includes working for The Boston Globe, The Augusta Chronicle, The Associated Press, and The Bryan College Station Eagle.
