Michael (Mikey) Lloyd Powell, cousin of poet Benjamin Zephaniah became known after his death in police custody at the age of 38,. He was survived by three young children.
Mikey died on 7th September 2003, at the police station in Handsworth, Birmingham in England.
The Friends of Mikey Powell Campaign for Justice was established by friends and family after community protests including a march to Thornhill Road police station in November 2003. Over 500 people attended the protest and hundreds more lined the route.
