Michael J. Varhola

Michael J. Varhola (born September 24, 1966) is an author of numerous books, games, and articles, as well as the founder of game development company and manufacturer Skirmisher Publishing LLC [1].

Non-fiction books Varhola has authored or co-authored include Shipwrecks & Lost Treasure of the Great Lakes (Globe Pequot Press, 2007); D-Day (Savas, 2000) with Randy Holderfield; Fire & Ice: The Korean War, 1950-1953 (Savas, 2000); Everyday Life During the Civil War (Writer's Digest Books, 1999); and The Writers Complete Fantasy Reference (Writer's Digest Books, 2000) with Terry Brooks.

Gaming books he has authored or co-authored include Experts (Skirmisher Publishing, 2002); Warriors [2] (Skirmisher Publishing, 2003); Tests of Skill [3] (Skirmisher Publishing, 2004); Nuisances [4] (Skirmisher Publishing, 2005); Experts v.3.5 [5] (Skirmisher Publishing, 2005); Nation Builder [6] (Troll Lord Games, 2005); and Essential Places [7] (Troll Lord Games, 2006), both of the latter two with Gary Gygax.

Books Varhola has published include the 2004 edition of H.G. Wells' Little Wars and the 2006 edition of the same author's Floor Games, both of for which he also wrote the introductions.

Varhola is a 1993 graduate of University of Maryland, College Park, from which he received a B.S. in journalism. Other schools he attended include the Metropolitan State College of Denver, Colorado, and the American University of Paris. He graduated from high school at Carson Long Military Institute in New Bloomfield, Pa.

He is also a distant cousin of artist Andy Warhol.
