Michael Hogan (sportsman)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Hogan (1896-1920) was a Gaelic football player, and captain of the Tipperary GAA team.

He was one of two players shot at Croke Park on Bloody Sunday, November 21, 1920, in a massacre by the Auxiliary Division. British police auxiliaries entered the ground, shooting indiscriminately into the crowd, killing 13 during a Dublin-Tipperary football match. The dead included 12 spectators as well as Hogan. Another player, Jim Egan, was shot and injured.

Hogan's name was given posthumously to the Hogan Stand at Croke Park, built in 1924.
