Michael Gungor

Michael Gungor, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States is a Christian worship music singer/song writer. His most noted work is the Dove nominated song of the year: “Friend of God” which he co-authored with Israel Houghton. Gungor is also known for his involvement in the Acquire the Fire: Battle Cry conferences as the worship leader. Gungor “lives to help other people encounter God through worship.”¹ Currently, he is the worship leader at Resurrection Life Church in Grand Rapids, where he leads over 7,000 people in worship at weekly services.⁵ Gungor also leaders worship for other churches in the American Midwest.

Gungor has lead worship since high school. He was educated at Oral Roberts University, North Texas University and Western Michigan University. His musical style was influenced by many genres including jazz, rock, world music, and more. He has released two albums: Bigger Than My Imagination, and Battle Cry: Worship from the Frontlines. ChristianityToday.com called Better Than My Imagination “one of the year’s best worship albums from one of the most promising new worship leaders.”²
