Michael Gaffney

Michael Gaffney is a politician in Ottawa, Canada. He was the Liberal Party candidate for Nepean—Carleton in the 2006 federal election. Gaffney is the son of Beryl Gaffney, who was Member of Parliament for in the riding from 1988 to 1997. He attended the University of Ottawa where he earned a degree in Health Sciences. He went into the private sector, was previously the CEO of Learnsoft Inc, and is currently CEO of In-Touch Survey Systems, a research consultancy, and Blue Fyre, a venture capital firm.
In 2004, he ran for the Liberal nomination for the riding of Carleton—Lanark, but lost to former footballer Dan Wicklum. In 2005, he won the Liberal nomination for Nepean—Carleton.
On January 23, 2006, Gaffney was defeated by Conservative incumbent, Pierre Poilievre, who won with 55% of the vote, beating his Liberal challenger by over 19,000 votes.
Nepean—Carleton covers the mixed rural-urban southwestern portion of the city of Ottawa.
