Michael James Elston (born February 7, 1969), a United States lawyer and political appointee in the administration of President George W. Bush. Elston is the former Chief of Staff & Counselor, Office of the Deputy Attorney General, United States Department of Justice.

Elston grew up in Rockford, Illinois and attended Rockford Auburn High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Drake University, and a law degree from the Duke University School of Law.

Elston clerked for the Honorable Pasco M. Bowman of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

He later worked as an associate at Shughart Thomson & Kilroy in Kansas City, Missouri.
