Michael Barker (drummer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Barker is the drummer and percussionist for the Australian band The John Butler Trio.

Born in Rotorua, New Zealand in 1966, Barker began playing the drums at age 10. As a teen, he played with various bands in New Zealand and moved to Melbourne, Australia at 19 to learn orchestral percussion.

In Melbourne, he recorded with Neil Finn. After touring with Finn, Barker met John Butler who needed a touring drummer to support Sunrise Over Sea. Nicky Bomba, Butler’s brother-in-law, had recorded the album but had to return to his own band and could not tour with Butler's trio. Barker ended up recording percussion tracks on the album and played the drum tracks on "Betterman" and "Something's Gotta Give".

The John Butler Trio, with Shannon Birchall on bass, toured for support of Sunrise Over Sea, and are now ready to tour for the upcoming "Grand National."

Michael Barker released his first solo CD "WONDERLAND" in November 2006, encompassing a myriad of musical styles creating his own sound.

WONDERLAND is released independently through MGM distribution and can be found in all good record stores, at JBT gigs and there’s a link to online purchase from -http://www.waterfrontrecords.com/releases/releases.asp?Action=DisplayProduct&ProductID=69581
