Mezhdunarodnaya station
Mezhdunarodnaya station

Mezhdunarodnaya (Russian: Международная, literally meaning "international") is a station on the Filyovskaya Line of the Moscow Metro. The station was built as part of the second stage and completed the branch of the Filyovskaya Line into the Moscow-City business centre. Opened on August 30, 2006 and thus becoming the newest station in the system, formally known as Mini-Metro.

The station, designed by architects A.Orlov and A.Nekrasov features a deep level pylon-trivault design, however unlike the standard Moscow sizes, the platform length is shortened from 192 to 118 metres, whilst the sizes of both the central and platform vaults has also been reduced from the standard nine to 7.5 metres. As a result the station has received the sizes similar to those on the London Underground stations. Also Mezhdunarodnaya is the only deep level station which features a curved platform.

Decoratively the station is set in a modern "high-tech" aesthetic design which delicately blends with the skyscraper landscape of the future Moscow-City. This consists of white marble, and plastic panels, a dark granite floor, Metallic interpylon slabs. The vestibule of the station is located under Moscow's internal Motorway, the Third Ring. The lobby contains modernised turnstiles.

In the future the station will become a transfer point to a high-speed rail system that would link the City with the Sheremetyevo International Airport and the Leningradsky Rail Terminal, opening up possibilities of a rail link to St. Petersburg.
